Description
This workshop will address small-group conferencing as an alternative or supplement to written response and one-on-one conferencing. As an alternative to written response, small-group conferencing can allow students to ask questions and to get more actively involved in problem-solving. As an alternative to one-on-one conferencing, small-group conferencing offers potential benefits for both students and instructors: instructors report less burn-out (fewer appointments), and students have the opportunity to take part in the analysis of multiple papers rather than just one paper. The workshop would consist of a brief overview of small-group conferencing, including student testimonials, a role play, and a discussion of how this method might work in various courses. As BSC implements its writing-intensive core curriculum, small-group conferencing offers a powerful means of reshaping our writing pedagogy.
