Description

I have been playing the Theremin for a little over a year. Last summer I composed a piece, with support from a CARS Part-Time Faculty Scholarship Development Grant, for the instrument. Since I created the work with the intention of being able to perform it at festivals and conferences across the country, the project presented a unique issue for me to deal with. Namely, anything I wrote had to be playable by a beginning level performer on the instrument. Furthermore, I had to create a piece for an amateur player that would be sufficiently interesting and compelling enough to be a decent candidate for national music festivals and conferences. Toward that end I produced a video to accompany the live performance. This exhibit presents my problem solving process for the project, as well as a performance of the completed piece.
