Description
Bridgewater State University has indicated that high-impact educational practices (HIPS), such as the mentoring of undergraduate research and honors theses, are an institutional priority. Extensive research over the past 25 years indicates that these learning practices increase student retention and engagement. Undergraduates’ relationships with faculty mentors are directly and significantly correlated with a broad range of developmental and academic outcomes and students from traditionally underserved groups show the greatest gains. Given that HIPS improve student success indicators and are highly valued by BSU’s leadership in Academic Affairs, it is important that faculty effectively document these practices in their reappointment and promotion portfolios. This session will discuss how to present these practices in the various sections of the portfolio and provide examples from different colleges on campus.
