Location

End Time

Description

The Core Curriculum was implemented in Fall 2006, and it includes a set of skills requirements: mathematical reasoning, speaking, logical reasoning, and writing. For students to master the skills requires that the skills be introduced in foundation courses, reinforced across the curriculum, and then also taught as they occur in discipline-specific ways. Yet, many faculty across the University are not familiar with the content of the foundational skills courses. At this panel, representatives of some of the departments charged with teaching those foundational skills will present information about the courses these departments have developed. We’ll review the Core Curriculum skills learning objectives and share the format and content of the Core skills courses, showing how those learning objectives are taught. We hope to elicit a larger conversation about Core Curriculum skills across the disciplines.
