Using contemporary social media, this presentation will provide a visual overview of the activities of Planned Parenthood affiliates. Images and descriptions taken from numerous Planned Parenthood Facebook and Twitter accounts will highlight the organization’s recent sex education programs, political campaigns, and fund-raising efforts across the U.S. and the world. An analysis of some of Planned Parenthood’s more controversial activities will be presented, including live university sex education demonstrations, burlesque shows, flash mobs, condom pub crawls, and adult products company sponsorships. This multi-media presentation will encourage lively, interactive discussion among audience members about the appropriateness and effectiveness of Planned Parenthood as a provider of sex education to children and young adults.
