Description

Annually, about 2,000 U.S. children die from maltreatment. Roughly 12% of the child welfare workforce will be directly faced with a maltreatment-related death each year. This poster will address child maltreatment fatalities and the child welfare profession by reporting on a multi-state study of child welfare workers (n=453) concerning maltreatment fatalities. Topics include: worker knowledge of risk factors, characteristics of workers who experience a maltreatment fatality, and the impact of a fatality on worker’s trauma symptomatology.
