Description

In this presentation, we will discuss perspectives from beginning teachers who participated in the BSU New Teacher Academy and New Teacher Seminars as part of the New Teacher Partnership (NTP) and engage in a dialogue with session participants about other K-12-university collaborations. The NTP fosters collaborative relationships among K-12 schools and university faculty to support teacher development during their induction years. The program aims to reduce teacher attrition and better prepare new teachers for the realities of their first year. The first two years of teaching are critical in establishing a sound base on which teachers can build satisfying and successful careers. Unfortunately, the first two years are often the most difficult which is reflected in high teacher attrition rates (Latham & Vogt, 2007).
