Description
Service-learning and civic engagement are tools which can enhance the teaching, research/scholarship and service activities of faculty and staff in support of student learning. This session will provide an overview of the service-learning and civic engagement activities being offered at BSU. Members of the BSU Service-Learning Advisory Board will discuss current and potential initiatives. Participants are invited to bring their questions and ideas to share with their colleagues. The presentation and interactive discussion will seek to clarify and advance BSU’s service-learning and civic engagement efforts in collaboration with community partners locally and globally. Topics to be addressed include:
- International/national research and service opportunities
- Assessment/evaluation efforts
- Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (supporting faculty in the tenure and promotion process)
- Interdisciplinary efforts across schools and departments
- Resource development (e.g. transportation, funding and developing/maintaining relationships with community partners)
- Trends, opportunities and challenges emerging institutionally and nationally
