Description
In February, 2010, Bridgewater State College science and education faculties met to dialogue about how best to attract and teach aspiring science teachers. Currently, there is a strong need for public school science teachers, especially in Massachusetts. So why is it that so few BSC science majors elect to go into the K-12 classroom? How do we at Bridgewater State College build a community of pre-service science teachers? How do we identify and connect with students interested in teaching science? Once we identify such students, what types of supports do we need to provide for these aspiring science teachers? Should we try to increase the number of students who are interested in teaching K-12 science? What kind of professional development for current and future teachers would be best? These are some of the questions our panel of science and education faculties will discuss in this session.
