Project Description/Abstract
Mental disorders are the number one cause of disability in the United States, Canada and Western Europe. Learning how to effectively facilitate help-seeking behavior is a key competence for allied health care practitioners. The focus of my project was to prepare and write two chapters for my textbook manuscript, Practitioner Guidebook – Promoting Wellness and Facilitating Psychosocial Referral for Physical Therapists and Athletic Trainers, as the prospectus was in the process of being reviewed by a textbook publishing company. As it was not adopted, I submitted the prospectus to another publisher, who requested that the textbook be rewritten for one audience, Athletic Training students; making the new title, Athletic Trainer’s Guidebook: Promoting Wellness and Facilitating Psychosocial Referrals. In addition, the publisher requested chapters 1-4 to be rewritten for the intended audience. The grant outcomes were: 1) re-write of chapters 1-4 and, 2) prepared and wrote chapter six, “Developmental Considerations.”
