Project Description/Abstract
This Summer Grant would fund two tasks needed to complete a book manuscript entitled “Pursuing a Women’s Agenda in the State Legislatures.” The focus of my research is to examine to what extent, and how, women legislators balance representing their district constituencies with representing the interest of women in society. The first task to complete is hand-coding of legislation in six state house chambers. The second task to complete is a detailed editing of the manuscript to account for the increased explanatory power created by adding the coding of the sic chambers and to prepare the manuscript for submission. This project is a contribution to research on women in politics through the innovative use of this coding scheme as well as the comparison of women legislators’ opinions and actions across different chambers.
