Project Description/Abstract
I propose to continue a project of digitizing a collection of nearly 2000 glass negatives in the Tangier American Legation Museum in Tangier, Morocco, dating between 1910 and 1935. A CART Small Grant allowed me to continue with the historical identification of the images-a project left incomplete in 1989. A CART FLRG Grant in 2005 facilitated the initiation of the process of digitizing the collection. Thus far, 350 of the negatives have been scanned. The goal is to complete the scanning process and to create an archive on DVDs that will be deposited in the Bridgewater State College Library, the Fine Arts library at Harvard University and in Tangier and thus, available to scholars of the region for research. The project was scheduled to be completed last summer but, due to a major computer problem, I lost a month’s work awaiting a part to be delivered by a visitor from the U.S.
