Project Description/Abstract
In just fifty years, technology has advanced to a point where a $30 wristwatch contains the same computing power as all of the computers aboard a NASA Mercury Mission spacecraft. What was once technology created and reserved for government programs with enormous budgets and human resources has now become readily available to individuals. Using today’s digital technologies, artists are able to depict subjects in ways unimaginable not long ago. In this project I will observe and capture deep space objects using a telescope, specialized imager and computer to create paintings and drawings depicting celestial objects. The images I create with this grant will explore new directions in traditional “landscape” imagery with the use of currently available backyard astronomical technologies.
