Title
Many Miles Away: Exploiting Long Distance Viewing As a Theme in Art
Document Type
Grant Proposal
Date Accepted
Spring 2011
Project Description/Abstract
For this project, I will create paintings and drawings that emphasize distance as the conceptual focus of the work. I will explore how my images can emphasize the aspect of distance and its relationship to how we understand things that we do not physically experience. My focus will specifically involve issues of outer space and space exploration. I will employ various technologies such as Internet web cameras, digital photography, professional observatories and amateur telescopes to influence the creation of traditional painting and drawing mediums. My goal with this grant is to produce a body of images that compel people to contemplate our ability to discover, view and understand objects that are extremely far away.
