Abstract
Love. Hate. Revenge. Drawing on the centrality of food in Chinese culture, this presentation will consider the relationship between food and power in film and fiction. From the 4th century to the present, food has been used as a metaphor that reflects an often shifting moral landscape in China, a landscape filled with complex family, cultural, political relationships and one that is essential for a student’s understanding of China today.
