Abstract

Tablet computers, apps, YouTube, webinars, social networking…so many new technologies to harness, so little time to figure them all out. How do we decide what will work best? Who has time to learn how to use all of these, let alone reconfigure existing materials to utilize these technologies? Many K-12 (as well as college) classrooms are embracing technology, and if the students are not already ahead of their teachers in using these resources, they soon will be. Educators don’t need to be “digital natives” to figure out which technologies would be useful in their own classrooms, but they do need to know what’s available and how to take full advantage of these tools. In this presentation, I will discuss how the Five College Center for East Asian Studies is using (or planning to use) technology to assist K-16 educators in teaching about China, Japan and Korea.
