Description
This presentation shares an outline for a choreographic research project (currently in development) that asks non-dance majors to be observers of, and responders to, their world outside of the classroom. Students will select one issue at the forefront of our society to investigate through an artistic lens. Multiple modes of communication used to relay information on the issue will be analyzed and will serve as inspiration for creative and reflective activities that ask students to read and write about their world in numerous ways. Each student will experience movement as a viable form of communication by choreographing a solo based on their understanding of, and response to, their chosen issue. Students will engage in verbal and non-verbal dialogue with their classmates about their solos and collaborate on piece of group choreography that serves to reflect their collective voice on their world.
