Description

In an effort to better prepare teacher candidates for the Candidate Assessment of Performance (CAP) evaluation, two Elementary and Early Childhood professors have developed a pre-CAP experience occurring during the pre-practicum semester. The pre-CAP process enables teacher candidates to become familiar with the language and ratings of CAP prior to their practicum semester and to calibrate to CAP ratings based on faculty review. This process also provides teacher candidates opportunities to participate in reflective practices. The experience culminates with an activity in which students review all of the evidence collected during the pre-practicum semester to set a goal for improvement at the start of their practicum experience. Attendees of this presentation will receive an overview of the pre-CAP experience created by these professors and copies of materials. Feedback from the attendees concerning ideas for improvement will be requested.
