Description
Hornithology
Directed by Mrs. Rachel Daly, with Ms. Megan Riccio, Mrs. Susan Winterbottom-Shadday, and Mrs. Sheri Fernandes
The Hornithology Ensemble is a consortium of classically trained horn players from Massachusetts and Rhode Island. With a four-octave range, and over 100 years of combined playing experience, the Hornithology Ensemble plays an amazingly diverse repertoire of horn music, from Bach to the jazzier arrangements of Lowell Shaw. Individually, the members can be heard performing with top orchestras, in musical theatre orchestras and, occasionally a big band, all over New England. One of the unique qualities of the Hornithology Ensemble is that it is as deeply committed to music education as it is to the highest level of artistic musical performance. In addition to playing horn, members of Hornithology teach and can be found on college, university, and public school faculties around the region including Boston College, Bristol Public Schools, Lexington Public Schools, Salve Regina College and Bridgewater State University along with private horn studios.
