Description
Social justice is a moral imperative that advocates and promotes equitable distribution of resources, equal access, and fairness. Increasingly, matters of unfair and unequal treatment continue to demoralize historically excluded populations. Although there is no universal definition of social justice, emphasis is placed on preventing and eradicating oppression on a micro, meso, and macro-level, together with the promotion of full and equal participation that enhance quality of life. Often the stories of injustice and pain of those who are marginalized are silenced or ignored. There is a compelling call for educators to be continually mindful of the complexities associated with reducing disparities. Voices, everyday lived experiences, and narratives of research participants who named and presented sources of suffering and unequal treatment will be used to facilitate understanding and support, as well as inclusive teaching and learning. As agents of change, best practices of educators will also be discussed.
