Description
Team-Based Learning in Business Calculus
Dr. Laura Gross, Dr. Matthew Salomone
Applied calculus can be an incredibly powerful tool in the workplace. However, business majors often find the calculus learning curve to be quite steep. Since team-based tasks are commonplace in the world of business, could team-based learning help business students rise to the challenge of their calculus course? This spring, we redesigned several sections of BSU’s Applied Calculus for Business around project- and team-based learning. We will share the key features, projects, pitfalls, and successes from the semester, including some examples of student work.
Teaching with an iPad Whiteboard and Video Capture App
Dr. Matthew Salomone
Tablet devices afford their users a lot of freedom. How can instructors at any level harness that freedom for pedagogical purposes? What are some ways to use an iPad to enhance teaching? In this session, I will discuss how one iPad app called Doceri has supported a change in my teaching. Not only does it free me from the whiteboard during class, permitting me to be among my students, it also gives me a platform for producing high-quality video presentations that I use both as "flipped" pre-class watching and as post-class recaps.
