Description
Active learning in the classroom has long been a priority on our campus, and the superior engagement, inclusiveness and effectiveness of active learning pedagogy is well documented. However, the design of the spaces in which we teach has not evolved as rapidly as our teaching practice, and front-end-and-rows classrooms still dominate the higher education landscape. In this seminar, participants will discuss the opportunities and challenges of implementing a decentralized, group-based active learning space design known as SCALE-UP (Student-Centered Active Learning Environment with Upside-down Pedagogies), experience the model for themselves, and weigh its potential benefits to faculty and students in all disciplines at BSU.
