Description

This session will discuss the use of an academic e-folio for the evaluation of faculty undergoing the evaluation process for tenure and/or promotion. For many years colleges and universities have used a structured contract specified three-ring binder paper portfolio for the evaluation of tenure-track faculty. This portfolio is a record of faculty reflection on teaching effectiveness, professional development and achievements in academia over time. With the push for undergraduate and graduate students to use an electronic folio as evidence of documentation of growth over time in preparation for professional careers, colleges and universities need to also take a look at the use of electronic folios as one option for faculty in the documentation and presentation of evidence for the formal tenure, post-tenure and promotion processes. Discussion of electronic portfolios as one of the options available to faculty undergoing tenure/promotion will focus on the advantages and some of the common concerns from the perspectives of faculty undergoing the tenure/promotion process and members of the committee that review the electronic portfolio.
