1:50-2:20 PM – Large Marine Animal Coastal Dynamics in the Waters off New England: with Focus on Basking Sharks, Ocean Sunfish and Marine Turtles

Dr. John Jahoda, Ms. Krill Carson
We will discuss our ongoing research on marine animals including basking sharks, ocean sunfish and marine turtles that has been carried out over the past 20 years at Bridgewater State University. This research has been supported in part by CARS funding. We will discuss the overall direction of the research and then focus on the most recent work on ocean sunfish and behavioral modeling.

2:20-2:50 PM – InSight-s: A Multimedia Installation in Three Continents

Prof. Magaly Ponce
This presentation is on the last stage of the whale inspired traveling art exhibition: InSight-s, which was initiated two years ago, with FLRG and external funding. Only a few days after the CARS celebration, International Museum Day—May 18th, 2012—the Carlos Machado Museum in The Azores will add InSight-s: A Multimedia Installation in Three Continents as its first contemporary art piece for its permanent collection. The presentation will include whale video and sound, project timeline slideshow and the two catalogs produced for the exhibition.
