Description

Professional School Counselors (PSC) are critical in the primary and secondary schools through America; however, they continue to combat issues of role ambiguity at multiple levels. The Massachusetts School Counselors Association (MASCA) and its affiliate groups work to support the role of the Professional School Counselor in the 21st century and help to inform and educate schools and communities to see the evolution this role has taken. One key example that illustrates the evolution and transformation of the role is the current use of psychoeducational group work in the primary and secondary schools facilitated by the PSC. This poster provides important history about the School Counseling field, explains the importance of Group Work in the schools and supports why the PSC is the critical role to deliver this service to the students. Examples of how psychoeducational group work can be used throughout primary and secondary schools are shared.
