Description
"Democracy Plaza" is a collaborative involving Student Affairs and Faculty, including members of the BSU Service Learning Advisory Board. It encourages civic engagement on local to global issues integrating curricular and co-curricular activities. Democracy Plaza supports BSU's Strategic Planning goals of developing: campus and community relationships, leadership skills, regional capacities, awareness of diverse global/cultural perspectives practices related to social justice, sustainability and the university's impact in the world.
Democracy Plaza supports the university’s strategic goals by developing well-informed and engaged citizens through critical thinking and civil discourse on a variety of civic issues. Democracy Plaza will provide opportunities in “real” and “virtual” locations to consider and discuss civic issues from a variety of perspectives and allow individuals to offer comments, ask questions and become involved.
This session will explore Democracy Plaza, its use on other campuses, and how BSU faculty, staff, and students can become involved in this new campus initiative.
