Description

This presentation will share the planning, experience, and outcomes of using a DIRI course-embedded grant. During the spring 2011 semester the presenter taught a graduate level research course using a Diversity Inclusion Research Institute Graduate Diversity, Inclusion, and Social Justice Course-Embedded Grant. Attendees will learn about; 1) the strategic planning of adopting an existing course into one that meets the objectives of the grant while maintaining the integrity of the course, 2) a description of the four separate student-driven research projects completed with the grant, 3) an account of the instructor's and student's experience of using the grant, and 4) a comparison of outcomes between the same course when the grant was used and when it was not. Throughout all of the abovementioned themes the presenter will share critical moments during the semester when adaptation and flexibility was used for the success of the project. An emphasis of "reflecting in action" will be used.
