Description

Have you ever experienced a lull in your classroom, virtual or face-to-face? What is it that teachers and learners bring to the face-to-face classroom that is difficult to replicate or support in an online environment and keep students engaged? "When people interact with others, but aren't talking, they're still communicating nonverbally. Indeed, up to 90% of what people say and feel is communicated through their actions, not their words" (Hansen, 2011). In our experiences, however, several teaching strategies have engaged students both in face-to-face and online courses. Our aim is to model interactive teaching strategies to amplify engaged student learning and to encourage participants to reflect on the ways in which they design classroom experiences. Participants will improve and expand their pedagogical repertoires for engaged student learning, lifting the quality of the virtual and face-to-face classroom environments.
