Description
To enhance student success, good teaching, advising and mentoring are essential. However, the story of each student’s life is an equally critical factor. When that story is filled with personal and family challenges, it often spills into academic behavior, be it through sporadic attendance, lack of preparation or lack of required class materials. This panel addresses how the faculty can assist the student to succeed by more closely connecting the student’s academic life with support services. We advocate the view that, as faculty, we are teaching students not subjects, and as a college community, we all need to be proactive in encouraging students to succeed.
