The purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness of version two of the Decision Making Model (2005, 2007) along with an enhanced training module to increase the practitioner’s ability and confidence to effectively facilitate healthy behavior change. Subjects were identified from three geographic locations with an N=38. A mixed methods design was used, a pre-post test to assess participant knowledge in change theory and motivational interviewing, and a qualitative component to identify how this training changed their practice was studied. Participants responded to four follow-up questions 6-8 weeks after the training. Subjects reported the Decision Making Model (2005, 2007) was a useful protocol for facilitating behavior change. All subjects reported the need for training to effectively facilitate help-seeking behavior in their clients with mental health concerns.
