Description

The differences between undergraduate and graduate-level writing, appropriate expectations for graduate-level writing, and the rewards/challenges of integrating relevant writing assignments into graduate courses in varied disciplines are often debated. During this panel presentation, faculty members from the departments of English, Counseling, and Education will demonstrate the types of writing assignments their graduate students complete in their different academic subjects. These presenters will describe their goals and approaches for promoting writing in their fields and associated professions, effective strategies for supporting graduate student writers, and the appropriate amount of class time that should be dedicated to writing in graduate courses. Finally, these presenters will share examples of their assignments and their graduate students’ writing and will open a discussion on ways to support writing in graduate classes.
