Description

The purpose of this roundtable discussion is to talk about how faculty from English, Physics and SEAS blended their expertise and resources to help beginning teachers. The structure of the presentation will focus on issues involved in cross campus collaboration and will facilitate discussion about the process. We will talk about how some of our preconceived notions were dispelled and how we learned about each others disciplines in the process. Collaboration across campus through many disciplines is one of the goals of the BSC Teachers for a New Era Grant. Funded through a partnership with Boston College and the Carnegie Corporation, faculty from Arts and Sciences and the SEAS have joined together to plan, teach and evaluate Summer Start. Summer Start is a two-day summer program designed to help BSC graduates navigate the first year of teaching. The program continues as faculty and teacher leaders mentor the new teachers.
