Description
Each day in North America, more than 4000 women enter mid-life, and as we do, we face new challenges and new opportunities. Women today are living longer than ever before, and we have the opportunities to enhance the quality of our lives by reducing our risks for disease and improving our overall health. In this session, we will address three major health concerns of mid life women: heart disease, osteoporosis, and menopause. We will provide an overview of the current status of treatment and prevention regarding these conditions, and we will clear up some of the myths and misconceptions about them. In addition, we will identify key lifestyle choices and provide basic, simple, and practical strategies that can improve health status at any stage of life.
Life changes, adjustments, and challenges have not deterred aging and older Cape Verdean women from immigrating to the United States. In addition to learning about how older Cape Verdean women and their families experience the aging process, attention will be given to their sense of self, health, customs, and their sources of empowerment and resilience.
