Project Description/Abstract
I propose a 2 part project: to edit/prepare in the U.S. (May, July-August) for publication a monograph of a report on the Dome of the Rock by A.H.S. Peter Megaw, writing an accompanying 50 page essay; and in Jerusalem to complete the documentary research for Volume 2 on restorations of the Dome & al-Aqsa Mosque in the 20th & 21st centuries. Co-author Isam Awwad (Architect of the Dome for 32 years), and I will research documents for the 1993-94 (which I documented on site) and later restorations; scan them, translate them from Arabic. The project is affiliated with CBRL’s Kenyon Institute in Jerusalem with workspace and technical assistance provided there - also provided by the Albright Institute in Jerusalem, my residence for the grant period. I am working with CBRL to publish both volumes in their series on Jerusalem. I will also give a lecture at Tel Aviv University.
