Project Description/Abstract
This is a new anthology of seventeenth-century poetry for use in both undergraduate and graduate courses. The volume will include substantial, annotated selections from over thirty seventeenth-century poets; a section devoted to textual notes; a selection of contemporary critical essays; and a detailed bibliography of relevant scholarship. The volume will be approximately 960 pages and will include material from two older Norton anthologies, Ben Jonson and the Cavalier Poets and George Herbert and the Seventeenth-Century Religious Poets. Within the next nine months, my co-editor John Rumrich and I must complete the manuscript: we need to finish updating the selections from the previous editions, editing poems of newly added poets, updating the textual apparatus, selecting critical essays, and assembling the bibliography. The original due date for the manuscript was November 1, 2003, but we have obtained an extension until August 1, 2004.
