Abstract
This article presents the author's discussion of the reception of gay, bisexual, and heterosexual fans of the novel, film, and musical versions of "Kiss of the Spider Woman" (hereinafter referred to as "Kiss"). The author cites "Kiss" as an example of a hybrid contemporary genre called "sentimental postmodernism. "Kiss," written by Manuel Puig, affirms the importance of emotion to political consciousness. "Kiss" focuses on the politics of the personal view of identity formation and strengthens fans' commitment to liberal socio-political criticism.
