Abstract

An essay is presented on the influence of black literary culture on white literary culture. It discusses the popularity of African-American literature among white readers in book clubs and mentions the book club started by the television personality Oprah Winfrey. The reading strategies of white book club members are analyzed and the issue of cross-racial identification is generally explored.
