Abstract
Bill Clinton was the first true post-Cold War US president and as such had to define a new role for the United States in world affairs. Throughout his presidency, Clinton spoke out against a return to isolationism and used historical analogies to World Wars I and II and former president Harry Truman to justify continuing an active foreign policy.
