Description

Obesity is linked to numerous health conditions including heart disease, stroke, diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and numerous types of cancers. Many factors contribute to the increasing rates of obesity in children and adults. These factors include a diet lacking in fruits and vegetables, physical inactivity, stress, an abundance of low-priced, high calorie processed food and sugary drinks, excessive food marketing, and a built environment that does not support healthy eating nor physical activity. In Fall 2018, 257 BSU campus members completed a wellness survey including 169 students and 88 faculty and staff members that assessed fruit and vegetable intake, physical activity, perceived stress and priorities for change. Additionally, a Healthy Camus Environmental Audit was conducted. In this talk, I will share the results of both the wellness survey and the environmental audit.
