Event Title

Plenary 2: Academic Integrity and the Ethical Context for Students

Location

Moakley Auditorium

Start Time

16-5-2007 1:15 PM

End Time

Description

It has been one year since a new Academic Integrity Policy was approved by governance. Although the policy seems to be working as designed, several questions of importance to our community have arisen. To what extent is the policy serving as a deterrent to students? What range of sanctions should be available to the academic review panel when a student commits multiple offenses? And what can we do as a campus to educate students about academic integrity? At this roundtable, presenters will provide some statistics on academic misconduct at Bridgewater and will speak about their experiences in carrying out the procedures in the new policy, about challenges in the classroom and measures to deal with those challenges, and about pro-active approaches for infusing ethics into the curriculum. Most of the session will be devoted to a dialogue with the audience about some of the important questions.
