Let’s face it, sometimes educators want to be able to utilize tools and resources they find online that simply do not play well within a learning management system (LMS). In turn, many start utilizing free online services to host and facilitate a course’s content, activities, and resources. Akin to a student’s personal learning environment (PLE), such as an ePortfolio, perhaps these teaching spaces or open online course spaces can be considered course teaching or facilitation environments. Beginning with this premise, this presentation will provide participates with information on the tools faculty can utilize to create an online course space that exists outside of their institution’s LMS. We will share ideas from social media tools, blogs, and free webpage creation systems.
