In 1960 the Massachusetts State legislature passed a bill changing the designation of the State Teachers Colleges to that of State Colleges, allowing them to offer baccalaureate degrees in addition to the B.S. in Education. The catalog for 1960-1962 was printed prior to the legislation's passage and thus still refers to the college as Bridgewater State Teachers College.
