Project Description/Abstract

This CART Summer Grant project (Summer I term 2008) will complete the research and writing of a 25-30 page book chapter entitled “Hockey Despite Hitler: World War II and the Challenge to Hockey’s Global Divergence.” This chapter is of central importance to Part Two of the book that I am co-authoring (with Dr. Stephen Hardy, University of New Hampshire) entitled The Coolest Game? A Scholarly History of Ice Hockey. The book is under contract for publication with the University of Illinois Press. My grant period will be spent in undertaking three tasks: compiling and organizing primary and secondary source research already completed, completing my research of this subject, and writing the draft chapter. I am wholly responsible for the research and writing of this chapter.
