Note on the Author

Casey Rekowski is a senior majoring in History and minoring in Secondary Education. She conducted this research under the mentorship of Dr. Wing-Kai To of the History Department. This paper was written as part of a history colloquium about the intellectual traditions of China; she presented it at the Intergenerational Graduate Student Conference on Diversity in East Asia at U-Mass Amherst.
