While teaching a hybrid online course on social media, I decided to use a WordPress.com blog site as my home for course announcements, class discussions, document sharing, assignment details and signups, and more. The look and feel of the site was far slicker and easier to navigate than anything I had done previously in Moodle or Blackboard. Although there were some pitfalls along the way, I concluded that there was great benefit to using WordPress.com for future courses over other systems.
