I have been teaching biomedical ethics for several years; but over the past two years I have also been a member of hospital ethics committees, which allowed me to face, in practice, questions I was previously only familiar with in theory. My talk will explain the work of ethics committees and describe several cases and the ethical dilemmas they raise.
