Project Description/Abstract
The CART Summer grant would support the research and acquisitions of photographs of the Dome of the Rock, dating from the early 19th through the mid 20th century, documenting pre and post restorations of the building. The two collections for research are the Library of Congress and the visual Collections of the Harvard Fine Arts Library, both having substantial holdings on the Middle East. The selected images would be used as primary documents in the publication of my book on the restorations of the Dome of the Rock. Thus, the proposed project is part of a larger scheme to write and publish my book on the restorations of the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem from 1560-the present (support for which is sought elsewhere).
