Abstract

This past summer I observed Mandarin Chinese language instruction at Beijing Jiaotong University, where four of our students attended classes for five weeks. Classes covered comprehensive Chinese language, oral practice, calligraphy and cultural awareness. In this presentation will focus on the best practices of language instruction and make a tentative case for immersion instruction combined with classroom language learning. I will show videos of said instruction and address the latest theories of second language acquisition, with respect to Study Abroad experiences.
