Description
This presentation will focus on the preliminary results of an ongoing study about legal mobilization and Title IX. Legal mobilization refers to the process of activists and policy advocates using law to achieve social change. Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX) and several related laws have been used to regulate how universities respond to campus sexual violence for at least the past 30 years. This presentation details the goals of activists and policy advocates hoping to change campus approaches to sexual violence using Title IX. Drawing from in-depth interviews conducted over the past year, I will present patterns in how these activists view campus sexual violence policy, how they hope to see it change, and their general strategies for using Title IX during a time in which the policy is undergoing major changes.
