Event Title

Refocusing and Revitalizing for Optimal Learning and Teaching Through Body Awareness Practices

Location

Hart 117

Start Time

10-5-2018 10:45 AM

End Time

10-5-2018 11:30 AM

Description

Pushing through to instruct students who are having difficulty focusing can be unproductive for both students and teachers. This experiential session will provide short and easy-to do Body Awareness Practices that can assist students (and teachers) to operate at full potentials for learning and teaching. Using the body, movement and focused awareness can assist in balancing the neuromuscular system (which provides the developmental foundation sensory/perceptual/motor skills for focusing and organizing brain activity); balancing the limbic system (responsible for a complex of brain chemicals that affect our emotional states and direct behavior); and stimulating the vestibular system (which is said to have the most important influence, directly and indirectly on everyday functioning). Participants will: (1) explore Body Awareness Practices; (2) identify how and when to apply the practices; (3) identify potential drawbacks for implementation; (4) devise strategies for potential drawbacks.
